{"id":8766,"date":"2020-11-20T11:08:34","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T09:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/turismevalles.com.mialias.net\/municipis\/la-garriga\/"},"modified":"2022-03-14T16:11:20","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T15:11:20","slug":"la-garriga","status":"publish","type":"municipis","link":"https:\/\/turismevalles.com\/en\/villages\/la-garriga\/","title":{"rendered":"La Garriga"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>La Garriga: water, nature and architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p>Situated close to Barcelona in the north of the Vall\u00e8s Oriental region, La Garriga enjoys a wealth of tourist attractions.<\/p>\n\n<p>Thermal baths, Modernism and nature combine to create a harmonious environment, where the smallest details invite leisure and tranquility. La Garriga can consider itself privileged thanks to its favourable climactic and environmental conditions. It enjoys a mild and dry climate, free from fog due to its geographical position.<\/p>\n\n<p>The present-day town is the result of urban development which began in the middle of the 19th century, when it became one of the prime leisure centres and spa resorts of the Catalan bourgeoisie.<\/p>\n\n<p>Its thermal spa waters were already well known long before our own era; they were even used by the Romans. Their first use in the modern era was in 1840 when the Blancafort spa was built.<\/p>\n\n<p>Modernism, especially the kind that characterised the summer-resort style (Estiueig) together with Noucentisme and Eclecticism, left an indelible mark on the town with some 220 archeological features listed. These include the Illa Raspall (\u2018Raspall Island\u2019) declared a \u2018Cultural asset of national interest\u2019 or the impressive houses which line El Passeig. The heritage site of La Doma church (12th \u2013 16th century), with its old cemetery and Gothic alterpiece dedicated to Saint Stephen, is another highlight well worth a visit, along with the Roman villa at Can Terrers (also declared a \u2018Cultural asset of national interest\u2019 or the railway station air raid shelter.<\/p>\n\n<p>You should also make sure you pay a visit to the surrounding area, particularly the Cingles de Bert\u00ed mountains and the Montseny Natural Park, where you can take various footpaths and savour its rural delights.<\/p>\n\n<p>Also, make sure you don\u2019t miss the Fira de la Botifarra (\u2018Sausage Fair\u2019) in February, the Corpus Christi Festival in June and the Modernist Event in July.
